Say Yes to Languages programme currently in progress.
Summer Programme
Preparations in progress. Programme will run from the 1st to the 12th of July.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (LIVING OUR ETHOS)
In preparation for Confirmation the 6th Class children had their Service of Light on Wednesday the 17th of April. Thank you to Fr Vard, Miss Moore and Damien Bowe for their help in what was a lovely ceremony. They also attended a retreat in Mount St Anne’s on Monday the 15th as part of their preparations.
Confirmation took place in Stradbally on Saturday the 27th of April. Presided over by Bishop Denis Nulty. Thanks to Fr. Vard for all his work in preparing the children and for providing the transport to the practices and supplying the albs free of charge.
First Communion to take place this Saturday 18th of May at 11am.
SPORT
GAA coaching Dean Malone coaching all classes. Going very well and the children are enjoying it.
Cumann na mBunscol – Hurling and camogie. 4 teams entered in the competitions. Great amount of participation and development. Boys development squad through to a shield final. Boys to play Mountmellick tomorrow for a place in the final. Girls development squad also through to a shield final. Home matches in the community / soccer field has worked very well.
Indoor Athletics for Naíscoil throughout March and April for 4 weeks.
Gymnastics ongoing for infants and Naíscoil.
After school coaching: Resumed this week. Several interruptions with the weather.
OTHER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Rainbow Day: children wore in bright clothes and donated money to LOFFA.
Wellness Week: 29th of April to 3rd of May. Great success. 2K walk / run to the village.
Book Fair: Arrived in early March. Great excitement which is lovely to see.
Intel Mini Scientist: Huge win for Tomas and Emma in the Grand Final on the 11th of March. Homecoming celebration took place in the hall. Laois County Council have contacted us to say that they are going to have a Civic Reception for us to celebrate our big win in the science.
Science Blast: 6th Class exhibited at the RDS on the 6th of March with their project – ‘Future Proof Your Farm’. Well done to Miss Moore and 6th Class.
Green Schools: School has earned a green flag for all our work around Biodiversity. Workshop on the 24th of April. Thanks to coordinator Mr Glennon. Mr Glennon and Mrs Buckley and 2 children attended the awards ceremony on Monday last.
Gaelbhratach: School has earned a flag for promotion of the Irish language. Huge effort by all staff and children. Thanks to coordinators Mr Glennon & Mrs Matthews. Awards Ceremony in June.
Easter Bunny and Pet Lambs: Thanks to James and Seamus Ramsbottom for bringing in the pet lambs before the Easter holidays.
St Patrick’s Day Parade: A good turn out by all.
Seachtain na Gaeilge: 12th to the 16th of March. Lots of activites. Céilí with Dunamase College.
World Book Day: 7th of March. Children dressed up and had lots of fun. Book vouchers given to all children.
Violin: Continues every Tuesday for 3rd, 4th & 5th
Leinster Express Feature: School central to the piece.
- Finance Report
Pat Fitzpatrick (Treasurer) presented the Finance Report.
- Update on Modular Classroom
Final snags being completed on the build. Documents uploaded for BCAR certification. School to take possession of the classroom in the coming weeks once BCAR process is finished and insurance is transferred.
- Update on Footpath on Stradbally Road
It is hoped that work will start on this project in the coming weeks. Councillor Paschal is liaising with the County Council on this.
