6th class travelled to Emo Court on Monday 28th March for their final Biodiversity workshop with Edel from Laois Outdoor Learning. Edel visited Timahoe twice in term 1 when the students mapped out the school environment and learned about the importance of Bees and other pollinators. 🐝🦋🌱
On arrival the students learned about the History of Emo Court from Martina. We were then treated to sneak peak of the walled garden, an impressive 2 acre orchard bordered by raised beds. They once grew pineapples here! 🍍
Edel then gave each student a clipboard to identify native trees, log evidence of mammals and conduct a wildflower study using a quadrant.
We finished up with a picnic in the sun. A very enjoyable and informative day out for 6th class.
